OUR History

Brian J. Hood

Brian was born and mostly raised in the Tidewater area of Virginia.  As a child, he was fortunate to experience living a couple of years in Hawaii and then in Oregon where his father fulfilled assignments in the US Coast Guard.  Shortly after high school, when his father received orders to serve as the CO of the USCG base just outside New Orleans, the family moved to South Louisiana.  Brian went on to attend Louisiana Tech and the University of Louisiana where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management.  Brian also holds a State of Florida Certified General Contractors License and a General Contractors License (Group 5 Unlimited) in South Carolina.

After working for a Birmingham-based hospital construction firm, Brian moved to SWFL and went to work for a Naples-based commercial construction company.  The economy was great and there was plenty of local commercial construction work to go around.  Then came 2008.  For about a decade thereafter, Brian helped to create and grow the healthcare construction business of the Naples company where he forged performance-based and trusting relationships with local healthcare systems such as Naples Community Hospital, Lee Memorial, and Physicians Regional.  As the business grew, Brian’s travel also grew as he helped to facilitate hospital construction for the company across the state of Florida and then the U.S. for some of the largest healthcare organizations in the country.

Not long after the arrival of their first child, (and with news of a second one on the way), Brian and his wife made the decision that he step away from his position at the company in hopes of better serving his family, his professional goals and his ideals.  With like minds and aspirations, Brian and Jay teamed up to found Waltbillig & Hood and focus on providing the highest possible levels of service, expertise, and integrity to the Florida construction market.

Brian and his wife, Christy, reside in Estero with their now three daughters; Harper, Heidi, and Hazel.  They stay involved in the SWFL community supporting organizations like the American Heart Association, Florida Baptist Children’s Homes, and The Conservancy of SWFL.  In their spare time, they have a love for being on the water – boating, fishing, and taking in creation while honoring everything it offers.

Jay Waltbillig

Jay was born in West Palm Beach, FL, and moved to Naples in 1972. Jay attended Western Carolina University where he received a Bachelors’s degree in Business Management.  Jay holds a State of Florida Certified General Contractors license.

After college, Jay returned to SW Florida to build his family and career. He quickly realized his passion for construction and was fortunate to have worked for several industry leaders who helped facilitate his keen understanding of the business.

Our Culture

Waltbillig & Hood understands and believes in the necessity of building our business by building meaningful relationships, making reliable commitments and providing clear communication.   We set out daily to foster a liberating balance of support and challenge in the life of everyone involved in every action and decision we make inside and outside of our four walls.

Humility, Innovation, Leadership and Trust are the eternal and immutable principles by which we serve to inspire and deliver extraordinarily successful project experiences.

To be humble is to serve the people around you and be for their highest possible good as much or more than your own.

True humility is to recognize your value and others value while looking up. Its to see there is far greater than our current selves into who we can become, who others can become, and how much more we can do and be.

An idea or action that creates or adds value.  Never stop striving to find, learn or implement a better way.

Leadership is communicating to another person their worth and potential so clearly that they are inspired to see it in themselves and accomplish great things.

Trust is to be able to rely on the integrity of those we choose to surround ourselves with. You cannot do one without the other…at least not for very long.

  • It is with great honor and pleasure that I write this letter on behalf of Brian Hood, Michael Meadors, and Michael Gatley from the Waltbillig & Hood General Contractors team . As this was my first time building a commercial property, I was anxious about the process, which can be daunting. From the moment that Brian Hood and his team took on my project, I can say without any hesitation that I felt I was in the right hands. They were personally invested in my project and it showed throughout the process. Their goal was to deliver the high quality product that I expected, while guiding me through the process with my best interests at heart.

There are many moving parts and challenges during any construction process, which have to be managed with skill and in an efficient manner. My particular project involved constructing a multi-tenant medical office building with outpatient surgical facility. My biggest concerns were staying within my budget, finishing on schedule, and building a top notch facility that I could be proud of for years to come. Brian and Mike embraced my goals and helped me realize them. They did so in a positive manner, were always receptive to any questions that I had, and they conducted business with poise and confidence.

The team at Waltbillig & Hood will never take shortcuts or sacrifice the quality of construction. They take pride in their work, and especially in satisfying their client. I can say that unequivocally, I would choose them for any of my own future construction needs. There is no greater vote of confidence. I would be happy to discuss my experience with any individual who is considering these consummate professionals.
